THE CLIENT BRIEF
EME Power Solutions contacted JMH Directional Drilling Ltd to help them get 2 cable ducts under the A1 at Newark in stiff mudstone, Crossing from PC Knowhow to the field adjacent to Stephenson Way.
JMH Directional Drilling’s solution was to employ specialized rock tooling and wire line equipment supplied by Inrock to combat the mudstone.
JMH had to utilise two different rigs on this project. We used our American Auger DD10 to pilot the drill shot across the A1 from the field drilling under the A1 carriageway to a small adjacent island. The DD10 then completed the first ream trailing rods for the Vermeer D40x55. We set up the Vermeer D40x55 on the small island next the A1 and continued to ream the bore up to size and installed the required Ducts.
JMH completed the 2 crossings as requested by EME on time and on budget enabling EME to complete their works and get the grid connected on time.
